Jason – Iron Man Cairns
Our Physiohealth Katie Flatters worked her magic on of our star patients lately. Here is Jason's Iron Man Cairn story!
So not being able to run 10 days before the race due to the dreaded recurrent calf issue Jason's last stop before the flight to cairns was the Williamstown Physiohealth clinic!!
Once he got to cairns he stuck to icing , Recovery pump and pool running. Katie was confident his calf would hold up through the race as long as he didn't run in race week.
So he came out of the swim 25th in his age and onto the bike where he made his way to the front of the pack! After having the fastest amateur bike leg of 4 hours 48 mins he came off the bike 2nd in his age group.
He set off quicky on the run and was soon in first place running at an incredible pace of 4 min per km. In fact his slowest pace recorded for the whole of the marathon was 5 min km. Jason said " I had a really good bike time so I knew then that as long as my calf was good I was going to be hard to beat ".
He crossed the line with a time of 9 hours 11 mins, beating his PB by 26 mins.
So he's back to the world championships in Hawaii for the second year running to get that top 10 position.
We will be looking after Jason from now until October for injury prevention.
Well done Jason and good luck in Kona !
