Meet the 2015 Physiohealth Swift Carbon Cycling Team.
Jonathan has competed as a professional since 2008, having competed for the Jittery Joe's
and Fly V Australia teams, before joining Team Saxo Bank
for the 2012 season. Jonathan made his Grand Tour
début at the 2012 Tour de France
, where he was earmarked as a lead-out man for the team's sprinter, Juan José Haedo
; Jonathan took a top ten placing on stage 4
, when he finished sixth on the stage.
In addition to racing for Team Saxo Bank on the world tours in Europe. .Jonathan has won professional races in the USA, Asia and Australia.
Jonathan left Saxo-Tinkoff at the end of the 2013 season, and joined Drapac Professional Cycling for the 2014 season. Jonathan is now focusing on building Swift Carbon as a leading bicycle company.
Brian is our international from Arlington Heights Illinois USA. Brian has ridden competitively for five years and been a member of the Indiana University National College Cycling Team, where he was award Indiana’s University all star rider. Brian has regular stepped on the podium in Illinois state events as was the Illinois State Junior Criterium Champion.
Brian is in Australia to gain experience in the National Road Series, which he sees as a logical stepping stone to the upper echelons of professional cycling.
Brian studies public and environmental affairs at Indiana University.
Jason is our up and coming star, he is the current under 19 state country champion and as an under 19 had top 20 results in both Victorian and National Road Series elite events.
Jason works with Darren Casey in his design business learning how to set up display homes. He also helps in his mother’s business.
Jason is keen to improve on VRS race and is aiming for regular top 10 finishes and high overall series result. In the NRS Jason’s ambition is to gain experience and to continuously improve results leading into 2016.
Sam has had a number of top 10 finishes in Individual Time Trails around Victoria and rides a bike because he enjoys hurting himself, well pushing himself to the limits to see what he can accomplish.
Sam’s aims are to achieve a podium result in the National TT Championships and to race overseas in Europe. He is currently studying Exercise Science and hope to forge a career in an elite sports setting.
Aaron has been racing competitively since he was 10, starting on the track. Over the years he has built his cycling skills and ability in the disciplines of track, road and mountain bike.
Aaron rides his bike because of the sense of adventure and the amazing views, plus the adrenaline rush! This year Aaron has managed to grab a few state medals on the track, he is still missing the dreaded gold!
Aaron is fast finisher and the team will be doing everything in their power to leave him somewhere near the front 200 metres from the finish.
Aaron is currently studying a bachelor of Information Technology, and hopefully will one day be working in this field.
Matthias is competitive by nature and his biggest problem is keeping off his bike.
Matthias has won the Fred Icke handicap and has had a number of good track results, including 3rd in the Sid Patterson handicap, 1st in the Australia Day Madison, 2nd in the Australasian Madison championship, and 2nd in the Australasian points race.
Matthias is a hard working team rider that takes his own opportunities when they arise.
Matthias is currently studying business and is keen to start his own sports nutrition business. His interests outside of cycling includes cooking especially baking, camping and road trips.
Mitchell starting cycling at the Brunswick Cycling Clinic at the age of five, under the guidance of Olympian Alan Grindall . He pursued a number of sports before returning to cycling at the age of 17. Mitchell has raced both in Australia and Italy with results such as: 1st
U/23 Veneto Road Race Championships (ITA) (2013), 1st Piazzola Sul Brenta Kermesse (ITA) (2013), 2nd Valdango Kermesse, 1st U/23 (ITA) (2013) and 5th Metro Road Race Championships (2014)
Mitchell has a diploma in outdoor recreation from Gordon Tafe and is currently studying a Bachelor of Business Event management at Victoria University.
Chris comes from a rowing background and two years ago I was entered into a corporate triathlon for work and thought it would be a good idea to buy a bicycle. He rode socially then began racing criteriums, and over his first 12months in the sport Chris was able to progress from D grade to A grade and now thinks it is time to take the sport seriously.
Chris has stopped working to give himself the best opportunity to progress to the next level, which started by winning B Grade in last year’s Melbourne to Warrnambool.
Chris completed a building apprenticeship in December 2006 and a Certificate III in Building and Construction from Holmesglen Chadstone TAFE in 2009.
For Trent, cycling and racing is a passion and a lifestyle. It has given him an opportunities to travel, to meet people, and do things most people wouldn't do.
Cycling has provided Trent with the great life education. His passions include chilling out to trance music, devouring the tastiest ice-creams he can find, and working on improving his core strength.
Trent is studying a Bachelor of Commerce degree full-time at university, and ultimately wishes to use this qualification in conjunction with the unique skills and knowledge acquired from racing at an elite level.
